Local News Features Anthem Institute Cherry Hill 07/21/10

Anthem Institute Cherry Hill (New Jersey) was featured on a television news story about laid-off workers retraining for new careers.

WPVI-TV Philadelphia visited Anthem Institute Cherry Hill today for a story on laid-off employees who are retraining for new jobs at the school.

Many are older than even traditional career college students. One such student, a 52-year old former bank employee, is enrolled in the medical assisting program after a year of looking for work.

Another student is a former CPA who once pulled down a six-figure salary and is now attending the same program. The student’s spouse, a WPVI employee, brought Anthem to the newsroom’s attention.

Many students are getting by on unemployment benefits and have been closely watching the debate in Congress about whether to extend benefits to people who have been jobless for more than six months. The bill’s likely passage means more Anthem Institute students will be able to continue their retraining.

“I was actually worried because my unemployment just ran out last week,” one student told WPVI.
