Encouraging Citizenship While Educating Professionals 07/26/10
Anthem Education Group emphasizes civic responsibility and offers students opportunities to volunteer within their communities.
At Anthem Education Group, we aren’t just graduating professionals—we’re graduating good citizens.
All schools and colleges affiliated with Anthem Education Group offer students the opportunity to serve the local community. They can donate their professional skills to support workers at local service organizations, or participate in any number of charity fundraisers. Here is a sample of current charitable activities:
- Anthem College Minneapolis (St. Louis Park, MN) regularly hosts fundraisers to support Feed My Starving Children, a nonprofit group that packages and delivers nutritious meals, at a cost of just 19 cents apiece. Meals are delivered to children in struggling nations such as Haiti, Indonesia, North Korea, and Uganda. Without help, many of these children would simply starve.
- Last month, the college raised $5265 during a two-day carnival and classic car show preceded by a 12-week long “Penny Wars” campaign to encourage students to strategically donate loose change. The funds will pay for 30,971 meals that will be distributed to 10,224 children.
- Also in June, Massage Therapy students visited three workplaces in the Minneapolis area to raise funds by providing massages at worksites. Each site donated $200-$300 each in exchange for employee massages.
- In March, students raised just under $190 through a bake sale—enough to provide 1,112 meals for children who survived the earthquake in Haiti.
- Anthem Institute Las Vegas supports the Candlelighters of Nevada, who operate an annual summer camp—Camp Firefly—for children battling cancer. Massage Therapy students from the school traveled to the camp in June 2010 to provide much-needed massages to camp volunteers.
- Anthem Career College Nashville raised more than $1300 earlier this year for the American Cancer Society and the Nashville Relay for Life. Students held a chili cook-off early in the year and a Penny Wars in April that raised more than $1,000 alone.
- Students at Anthem College Milwaukee donated their time and creative efforts to benefit Ronald McDonald House. They served as Lunch Volunteers in April, buying ingredients and assembling 44 lunches for houseguests. In addition, they created colorful snack sacks that included snack foods, inspirational quotes, and homemade treats.
- Earlier this month, students from the Bryman School of Arizona and Anthem College Online collaborated to raise funds and collect school supplies for students in need. Massage Therapy students from Bryman traveled to ACO offices to offer staff chair massages for $5 apiece. In two hours, the students raised $240 and enough supplies to pack a truck.
